About Us

Connecting People Through Gardening and Nature

Originally established in 1940 as a direct response to the wartime Dig For Victory campaign, Gillingham Horticultural Society (GHS) continues to welcome members of all ages and backgrounds who share a passion for, and interest in, gardening. Whether you grow vegetables, fruits, or flowers, you’ll find a community of like-minded individuals which meets once a month to share experiences and learn from one another while also supporting local charities through fund raising and donations. With our affiliation to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and the Kent Federation of Horticultural Societies we offer our 300 plus members in the Gillingham area the benefits of discounted gardening supplies from 'The Shed', a programme of social events, affordable trips, and horticultural shows throughout the year.

Shows & Competitions

The Society hosts three annual, free to enter, horticultural shows for members, judged according to RHS rules.

Our events allow members to present the results of their gardening, craft, and culinary skills. We host informal shows in the Spring and Summer, culminating in a more comprehensive Autumn Show.

Successful entrants are recognised each year with certificates and trophies at our Annual Presentation Evening

Details of the classes of entry to the shows and entry forms can be found in our Show Schedules in the Members' Area and additionally at the Shed or at social meetings.
